Description: An odd looking plant with irregular, thin, projecting
ribs with a frosty blue-green color. Grows to 10 meters or more with a
branching, tree-like shape. Has long, radial spines to 10 cm, light colored with
dark tips.
Rarely blooms till several meters in heigth. Large, white nocturnal flowers
to 5 cm across, are cylindrical in shape and have a scaly tube.
Native to: The Rio Mantaro Valley of Northern Peru.
Cultivation parameters: Likes a well-drained, course soil mix and
sparse watering. Needs a winter rest period with little water.
Propagate by seed and grow in large containers with plenty of room for the
roots.
